Tenants and owners of Atlanta commercial real estate properties may have the easiest time recruiting relocating employees compared to any other city in the United States, as it was named the most desirable spot for attracting executives-level talent, according to a survey from search firm Heidrick & Struggles.
Atlanta received 70 percent of the total survey vote, the report explained. This was because the city boasts a high quality of life, an impressive infrastructure for businesses and a competitive affordability factor for tenants.
"Atlanta has it all, it is an incredible city with a vibrant business community," said Laura Brinsmaid, principal in charge for Atlanta at Heidrick & Struggles. "Today, more than ever before, people are weighing all aspects of their lives when considering a job change. The city they choose to live in has to fit their personal lifestyle too. The quality of life and their surroundings in a potential new city is a large consideration."
When looking at the rest of the country, Chicago had an impressive score as well, according to the report. The Windy City's impressive standing was due to its image as an ethnically diverse area with a strong culture. Also, it has a fair cost of living, as well as solid transportation.
Denver was also rated as one of the top areas in the country for transferees, as it was a good location for those who value the outdoors and being active, the report noted. Dallas was the fourth city on the list, as it boasted a large number of Fortune 500 companies, while still offering affordable living options.
"These are significant metropolitan areas that balance urban life and a high quality of life," said Rusty O'Kelley, managing partner of leadership consulting for the Americas at Heidrick & Struggles. "They are real business centers with a meaningful business and demographic diversity which is making them very attractive to top talent."
Some areas of the country may not have the same case to attract transferees successfully, the report added. Much of the rest of the Southeast struggles with this, especially the Gulf Coast area, which includes Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas. In addition, Detroit was also thought of as a city that struggled to attract workers.
Continued high opinions of the Atlanta area could help improve the commercial real estate situation, as it may help further stimulate the local economy.
