Energy Rodeo to kick up its heels in Houston

The Energy Rodeo, a round-up of job opportunities for new college graduates, gets underway Feb. 9.

It?s rodeo time in Houston, y?all! But there?s more to this time of year than bucking broncos and country music megastars as Houston-based energy recruiting firm, RTC Group, kicks off its third annual Energy Rodeo on Feb. 9.

The RTC Group opens the workshop to college undergraduate and graduate students looking for work in the energy industry. The event is geared toward assisting those interested in energy trading and energy investment banking.

?Like a rodeo, which is a showcase of various skills, the Energy Rodeo focuses on a variety of professionals from investment banking, trading, equity research, accounting and engineering to discuss their careers to current students,? said Eugene Rubio, RTC Group managing director and Energy Rodeo organizer.

Hiring in the energy sector is key issue as the industry moves forward. Reverberations of an economic downturn 20 years ago are still shaking things up in the energy industry as a lean mid-career workforce is left to pick up the pieces when vast numbers of Baby Boomers retire.

Panelists will include representatives from OTC Global Holdings, an independent broker in over-the-counter commodities in Houston and New York; Houston investment firm Tudor Pickering Holt & Co.; CIT Energy, which has a Houston office; and Citigroup.

?My goal creating the Energy Rodeo was to provide participating students with some of the knowledge I wish I?d had before beginning my career in the energy industry,? Rubio said.

Houston?s Noble Energy Inc. (NYSE: NBL) is expected to be among the presenters at the workshop.

Rubio hopes attendees can walk away with a larger professional network, a stronger resume, more extensive knowledge about the energy industry and even job leads. Last year, 165 people attended the event, and 11 companies were represented. This year, organizers expect attendance at 200 and feature almost twice as many companies, Rubio said.

The $30 registration fee can be refunded by RTC Group or waived through a discount code that can be obtained by contacting the organizers. Attendance is limited to 200 participants. Students are asked to sign up by Feb. 2 by visiting www.energyrodeo.com.
