(Picture: EPA/Christian Charisius) The medal ceremony for the event, which was won by Brownlee?s brother Alistair, had to be delayed as the 22-year-old recovered in the shelter of the stadium. He was then taken away in a wheelchair, but recovered sufficiently to take his place on the podium alongside his gold-medal winning brother and the Spaniard silver medallist Javier Gomez. Brownlee had earlier received a 15 second penalty for mounting his bike too early during a transition phase, and was required to pause during the last quarter of the 10km run. He ended up finishing 20 seconds behind Gomez, and had to dig in during the latter stages of the run to secure his bronze medal following the penalty stop. Brownlee?s brother, and new Olympic champion. Alistair, told the BBC he believed the penalty system ?ruined the sport of triathlon?. PICTURES: Men?s triathlon
