Struggling to figure out what to do in the month until "Game of Thrones" premieres? Well, Disruptor Beam has an idea for you. The video game developer has launched a new free-to-play Facebook game called "Game of Thrones Ascent," and it allows users to delve into the political landscape of Westeros.
"Build your noble house, embark on quests and rise in power in the RPG based on the hit HBO series Game of Thrones and George R.R. Martin's novels A Song of Ice and Fire!" the description on the Facebook page reads. "Your quest begins in the days before the mysterious death of the King's Hand. Your decisions impact how the story unfolds! Are you a fosterling or a highborn bastard? Do you follow the Old Ways or worship The Seven? Shape your identity within the world of Westeros! Swear Fealty to one of the great houses - Stark, Lannister, Targaryen, Baratheon, or Greyjoy - and consort with familiar characters."
The game promises "frequent updates with content matching new episodes on HBO," which should help engage fans as we head into Season 3. That's exactly what Disruptor Beam CEO Jon Radoff planned, as he explains to The Boston Globe that he wants users to have an experience similar to what they have when they watch the "Game of Thrones" series or read the "A Song of Ice and Fire" books.
"You've got these moral shades of gray, you've got the complexity of human interaction, and that's what we were interested in bringing to life in a game," he says.
"Game of Thrones" Season 3 premieres March 31.
