?Latest News,? and ?The Great Battle,? St. Paul Press. September 3, 1862.

Diary entry by Matthew Marvin, Private in the 1st Minnesota Regiment, written from a hospital at Craney Island on Chesapeake Bay in Virginia, where he is recovering from a gunshot wound.? This week, Marvin begins walking on crutches and his doctor orders peach preserves and molasses for him to eat.? Marvin also sees army ?regulars? mustered and hears rumors about the ?army of the [Raging] of Jackson,? (probably a reference to Stonewall Jackson?s role in Second Bull Run, August 28-30).

?Today they are all falling in for muster[.] Took 3 pills[.] Weather cool but pelasant[.]?
